Frequently Asked Questions
Shoes will need to be removed if you are inside the venue. The area where the ceremony is taken place is sacred. Barefoot is preferable but clean socks are okay.
Commonly, gifts are brought to the wedding and there will be a portion of time on Sunday where you can give them during the ceremony.
All food will be vegetarian and there will be no alcohol on Saturday and Sunday. Prepare to come hungry!
Avoid wearing completely/majority white or black outfits. Please wear bright colorful clothing and for the Nalangu wear yellow, orange, or red! In addition, it is common to change clothing many times for an Indian wedding. Look below for clothing options throughout North Carolina and online.
We recognize that three days is a lot of time. Sunday is the most important day, particularly for the Muhurthum.
We highly encourage wearing Indian clothing! In the past, some people have felt unsure or uncomfortable about whether it would be appropriate, but we want to assure you that wearing traditional Indian attire in this context is welcomed and appreciated. Cultural appropriation typically involves using elements of a culture in a disrespectful way or for personal gain, which is not the case here. Wearing Indian clothing to celebrate and support the culture is encouraged if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Arvind or Elizabeth!
Our top recommendation is to visit Sara Elegance in Cary, NC owned an operated by Rashmi https://www.saraelegance.com/. (Mens clothing - $180 to $500, Womens clothing ($180 - $1500+)
There is a seamstress at Sara Elegance who can do alterations in house, they need at least 2-3 weeks for alterations. If Rashmi is available you can let her know you are going to Arvind and Elizabeth's wedding, but if she is not just let the person at the front know you are heading to a South Indian wedding.
For more traditional online Indian clothing stores we recommend Shobitam. If you are ordering online, please give at least 12 weeks as they will be shipping from India! (Mens $150 - $500+, Womens ($200 - $500+)
For women ordering sarees online, you can order a pre-stitched saree which is easier to put on (you don't have to drape it). If you don't get it pre-stitched, there will be women at the wedding who can help drape the saree!
For modern/hybrid Indian clothing online we recommend -
Dash and Dot - A very modern casual to high fashion brand that ships both in the United States and from India. The brand is the most affordable that we have found, but would provide at least 12 weeks for shipping as options may ship from the US or abroad. (Mens $100 -$400, Womens $100 - $400)
Diya Rajvir - A modern Indian brand with frequent sales, please allow 12 weeks as they will be shipping from India and may need alterations. Diya Rajvir specializes in patterns and modern looks that work for both Indian weddings and many other events. (Mens $150-$800, Womens $150 - $2000+)
Dhristi and Zahabia - Very modern Indian brand with options that range for all different wear. Has the most options for those who like womens wear with pants rather than skirts. (Mens $150 - $300, Womens $150- $600)
Feel free to message both Elizabeth and Arvind for any questions regarding ordering clothing!
